About Ryan
I’m Ryan, a 21 year old self-taught at-home baker.
I have the internet to thank for most of the things I’ve learned about baking. I started baking when I moved into my first apartment in early 2009, it had a tiny little oven. I’ve moved since then and now I live in an apartment with an oven just as small but that’s okay, I still love it, it gets the job done without any trouble.
I also have very little counter space, but I make it work.
My favorite thing to bake is an obvious choice: cupcakes. I also like to bake cakes but I’m terrible at decorating them (practice makes perfect, hopefully you’ll see some decent looking cakes). I rarely bake with fruit but I’m going to try it a bit for this blog, a lot of people seem to like it and I don’t think I’ve given it a fair chance in the past.
I’m a vegetarian, so all the recipes I post will be vegetarian, which is great because most pastries are naturally vegetarian. I may use soy substitutes though, such as Morning Star or another fake-meat product.
Pugs are my favorite breed of dog. I love pugs. That is the reasoning behind the logo my friend Natalya made for me. I can spend hours looking at pictures of pugs and can’t wait to have one for myself. My roommate has two cats so I can’t really have a dog and I can’t really afford one at the moment anyway, but hopefully within the next few years I will have one!
I hate the taste of peanut butter and strawberries, separate or together. I’ll still make the occasionally post about peanut butter because everyone I know loves it but if you’re looking for strawberry recipes, this probably isn’t the blog for you. Maybe someday you’ll see a recipe for strawberry something-or-other though!
Oh, and I’m also pretty messy when I bake..I probably could make a cake with the amount of flour that’s spilled into my laptop keys (woops!)
I started this blog as an outlet for my baking successes and frustrations, to connect with people, and also to learn more about baking. I also want to learn more about photography and food photography as a hobby.
